When considering who should manage cultural institutions, there has always been a debate about whether they should be headed by a manager or a person from the industry. It’s rare and exceptional to have 2 in 1. If it’s a good person on top of that, it’s a lottery win. And this prize has been won by our biggest theatre stage – the Slovak National Theatre.
Matej Drlička is an award-winning musician, founder of the exceptional Viva Musica festival, twice-elected general director of the Slovak National Theatre, insightful discussion partner and a man with an opinion who is interested not only in art, but also in how and where we live. The debate with him was and is enriching because he cannot be limited or squeezed into a defined space, just as art cannot be limited. Our conversation took place a long time ago, but it has lost none of its authenticity or relevance.
Listen to an interview with Matej Drličko about the first scene, people in the theatre and outside it, managerial mistakes and lessons learned, his opinion about the SND and our society.
